Fans and Creators of Webtoons!
I want to talk about Line Webtoon’s new “Super Like” program and why it sucks for literally everyone.
What is a “Super Like?”
According to their website, super likes are a new way for webtoon creators to monetize their work. Readers can pay real money to buy a super like for their favorite webtoon, and the creator gets a fraction of that money.
Wait, a fraction? Not all of it?
Yep! Webtoon skims quite a chunk off the top.
30% goes to Webtoon, and then another 30% of that amount goes to the payment processor.
So what do creators get? 49 cents for every dollar their fans try to give them. Literally half.
That’s pretty ludicrous, right?
Interestingly enough, they announced that they had a “tipping system” in the works in the same email they ended the CANVAS creator rewards program (and many comic creators livelihoods)
They said tipping system in their social media posts too
Obviously this tipping system is referring to super likes right? They say they’re going to do a tipping system, and then this rolls out.
But “tips” are not something that buisinesses can just take a cut of, at least not in the United States. According to the Department of Labor, it is illegal for any amount of tips from customers to go to an employer.
Webtoon is trying to walk back this language, of course. You won’t find the word “tip” anywhere on their website page explaining how it works. But those old social media posts are still up.
This is all pretty scummy
But wait, it gets worse!
They removed the Patreon button at the end of episodes and replaced it with this:
Yep! That’s right. Webtoon really said “what if we replace the tipping system that already existed with a shittier one where you only get half of it 🥺”
Unsurprisingly, they faced a ton of backlash.
Webtoon was quick to point out that the Patreon button was only removed from the end of episodes and there was still a button on the creator’s homepage. But of course, the end of episodes is where that button matters the most.
Creators know this. Webtoon knows this.
Eventually, after days of continued complaints from creators on social media, Webtoon went on damage control mode and announced that they would be putting the Patreon button back at the end of episodes—
As of right now (May 11th, 2024) the Patreon button is still not back.
***
So…Super likes are “super totally not a tip.”
But if they aren’t tips…what are they?
Well there’s a bit more to the story of what a super like actually is. After announceing the program, the app updated to reveal a new ranking category on the front page
When you click on this ranking tab, you can see that there is now both a daily and weekly ranking
If you’re a CANVAS creator, you know how difficult and seemingly random it can be to get your comic on the front page of the app—so my immediate worry was that comic creators were going to buy superlikes on their own series to get in this ranking and…
Yep, that’s already happening.
But why would webtoon even allow creators to buy superlikes for themselves? How does that make sense?
Surely goading desperate creators into buying superlikes can’t be that lucrative, can it?
No. I think there’s another, possibly even worse reason.
Fandom wars
If you’re into music, you probably are aware of how common it is for super fans to make concerted efforts to get their favorite musician to the top of the billboard charts. They coordinate over social media, stream music on loop as soon as an album drops to inflate the numbers, buy albums in bulk to increase sales, all so that they can say their fav is number one. It’s especially common among K-pop fans and swifties
This phenomena is well documented
Fans of Webtoons can be just as ravenous as K-pop, so I think Webtoon is trying to capitalize on this. They want to encourage fandom war and make money. That’s why they have this ranking. Not only can super fans brag about their favorite series topping the charts but they can wear their super like proudly on their reader profile that webtoon will be rolling out soon.
They’re just testing this super like stuff out on CANVAS right now, but once this starts up with originals? Oh. It will be a very profitable, very terrible mess.
(Oh and I mean profitable for webtoon, not creators, in case that wasn’t clear.)
***
Anyway, if you’re a creator, do yourself a favor and don’t enable super likes.
If you’re a fan of a webcomic, just donate to that creators patreon or Ko-Fi to show your support. Don’t give a red cent to webtoon because they did not do any of the work to make the series you love, alright?
Also check out my webtoon haha.

there's something about the summer - jean kirstein x reader
tags: female!reader, some smut but not explicit, tooth-rotting fluff
minors/ageless blogs dni.
you were never a huge fan of summer, but a certain sandy-haired guy manages to change your mind. modern AU. title from "summer mood" by best coast. buckle up because this is a bit of a long one.
Walking away, talking all day Ooh, I want you Ooh, I want you But there is something about the summer There is something about the summer There is something about the summer
to be honest, summer was never your favorite season. sure, getting time off from school was nice, and going on family vacations was fun, but you could never say you were in love with it. that is, until you met jean kirstein.
it makes perfect sense that jean adores summer. the man is a walking ray of sunshine! at first, you're baffled when jean says it's his favorite season. how could he possibly love the hottest time of the year?
jean lights up as he explains what he loves about summer: beach days. lying by the pool at his mom's house. ice cream dates. the sun setting after 7 pm. it's such a freeing time, and makes him feel like a little kid again. (you playfully roll your eyes at his enthusiasm but secretly, your heart melts. jean is just too damn adorable.
jean, the sentimental sap that he is, is determined to make your first summer together great. the man has a document in his iPhone Notes app with potential summer fun ideas!
he's so lame (affectionate)
Jean takes you to his favorite beach, a 5-hour drive away from home. he loads up on both of your favorite snacks for the trip and trusts you with the aux cord. there's a lot of loudly singing to pop songs, even though jean, bless his heart, can't carry a tune to save his life.
you're definitely familiar with this beach in name (and through friends' Instagram photos) but you've never made the trip yourself. and after you and jean get settled into your airbnb and decide to explore, you wonder why it took so long.
the beach is located on a little island along the coast, 3 blocks away from where you're staying, and its gorgeous scenery takes your breath away. miles of sandy beaches and beautiful oak trees laden with spanish moss are there to greet you and jean. the two of you interlock fingers as you stroll along the beach and check out the pier.
jean finds another reason to love summer the next morning, when you decide to bring along a book in your tote so you can lay out on the beach and read. when you first emerge from your shared bathroom in your favorite bikini, jean has to keep his jaw from completely unhinging. goddamn, how did he luck out with the prettiest girl in the world?
it's such a good-fitting bathing suit, hugging your body in all the right spots and making your tits look amazing. jean blushes, still amazed at how you can get him so hard without even trying.
spoiler alert: you don't make it to the beach that morning - jean manages to convince you that your post-breakfast activities should involve him mouthing at your breasts under your bikini top and eating you out until your bottoms are soaked instead. (you should be mad at him for ruining your reading time but you can't be too upset after multiple orgasms.)
after a post-sex nap (jean, responsible king that he is, brought a box of condoms and some lube just in case) and a thorough session of sunscreen application (again: jean the responsible king, though the two of you also relish the opportunity to have your hands on each other again), the two of you do manage to make it out to the beach for an afternoon of lazing around.
you're reading a romance novel that one of your friends recommended to you, and jean has his sketchbook and colored pencils out. ("my little monet," you lovingly tease him, giggling when the tips of his ears turn pink and he smiles bashfully.)
after a couple of sleepy, relaxed, sun-soaked hours on the beach, you and jean head back to the airbnb, and he reveals what he's been working on. it's a picture of you, lying on your stomach as you smile at the book you're reading. the amount of detail jean puts into the drawing makes you feel warm inside. jean is so damn talented, and it flatters you to be considered his muse.
you beam at jean before pulling him into a deep kiss. "i'm so lucky to have you in my life," you mutter into his sandy brown locks, and it makes him want to melt. the feeling is oh so mutual.
the rest of the trip seems to pass by in a blur. jean is game as you pull him into vintage shops and museums, and you humor his touristy desire to go on a guided tour and chill out in the golf cart while your boyfriend plays a few holes. truthfully, you haven't been on a proper beach vacation in ages, and you're so glad jean convinced you to be whisked away for a few days.
you and jean vow to go on a beach trip every summer. he's already getting excited at the thought of bringing your future kids to his favorite beach, and your heart seizes at the thought. you'd been ambivalent to the idea of having kids at first but there's something about jean that makes you want to form a family with him someday.
one thing you and jean bonded over when you first met through mutual friends (thanks Sasha and Marco) was music, and you learn that jean is a huge summer concert fan. whether it's a big festival or just one of your favorite artists, he wants nothing more than to just vibe to the music with you. one year into your relationship, he convinces you to go to bonnaroo with him, which is huge because you do not do camping. but spending a weekend on a Tennessee farm with jean, jamming to a bunch of artists and feasting on festival food by day and snuggling under the stars by night, ends up being pretty damn romantic.
back to that first summer. jean usually spends the fourth of july at his mom and stepdad's lake house, and jean's mom insists that you tag along so she can finally meet the girl that her jeanbo is so wild about. you're nervous at first - you never know what will happen when you meet the parents.
however, all your worries melt away when jean's mom envelopes you in the biggest hug. the two of you end up adoring each other, which makes jean's heart swell (at least until he catches the two of you giggling over old childhood photos his mom has on his phone)
jean's stepdad is pretty great as well. he's an affable guy who makes a mean turkey burger and is delighted that you laugh at his terrible dad jokes. jean's stepsisters, who are both teens, love you and crack jokes about how their dorky stepbrother managed to land someone as cool as you. when the two of you are cuddled up in bed on the last night of your trip, you tell jean how welcomed you feel by his family, and he's relieved that his two worlds have merged together so perfectly.
there's so many summer memories that you and jean hold dear, no matter how big or small. you tell him how you and your younger brother used to stand out in the front yard on summer nights and watch the fireflies flit about. you both decide to check out a new custard place that opens up and become determined to try as many flavors as possible. movie dates, so many movie dates, whether they're in a theater or at home (and jean prefers the ones at home since they usually lead to makeouts). parties with your mutual friends. summer weddings that leave you both misty-eyed.
thanks to jean kirstein, you've warmed up - pardon the pun - to this magical stretch of time from late May to September. it's not like you've never had fun during summer, but this man (this beautiful sunshine boy) has made you appreciate the season in so many ways. jean embodies summer to you, and you can't think about summer without being reminded of jean.
during your third summer together, you and jean are on your annual beach trip, but something feels different. after a delicious dinner and dessert at a local restaurant, jean decides to take you out to the beach, ostensibly to get some pics of the sunset (you've gotten used to jean being your personal paparazzo by now, and you must admit, the guy takes good photos). however, once he drops to one knee and takes a small box out of his pocket, everything clicks into place for you. jean's been different this trip, still his normal goofy self, but with an undercurrent of something else that you realize were probably nerves. you can barely get any words out through your tears, peppering him with kisses.
you hear a camera flash go off and spot Sasha, who somehow managed to keep herself hidden during the proposal. you envelop her in a big hug, grateful to her for introducing you to the love of your life. you can't believe that jean is going to be yours - not just for this summer, but for every summer forevermore.

what’s some feedback staff has received and implemented? how’s the process there work?
some big ones i can think of:
we brought back replies (lol)
we fixed the video player (lol)
we built 1:1 direct messaging
we built group chat (lol)
we made it easier to share tumblr posts outside of tumblr
we built Blaze so people can advertise their posts on tumblr
we built Post+ and Tipping so people can monetize their blogs
we rebuilt new user onboarding to emphasize following tags and blogs
we built ad-free and other things you can buy to support tumblr
we brought down load times of the apps from 3 seconds or more down to below a second
we had built a lot of little experimental features in Tumblr Labs, and we're building more in the new Tumblr Labs team
we fix bugs every day, big and small
the process depends on what kind of feedback you're talking about:
a bunch of us on staff are using tumblr all day every day so we naturally see feedback circulating around the community. this is a lot less actionable than you'd think, which is why we encourage people to send in actual feedback via our Support form.
our support folks are reading every support request that comes in
those requests generally make it to one of two places: either it's a bug/glitch and gets filed as a bug report (or added to one if there already was one) or gets added to feedback about a feature for further consideration
we hold weekly bug triage meetings to prioritize those bugs in a big queue for engineers to work on, or send them directly to teams to address
if it's feedback about a specific feature, like one that just launched or changed, the feedback gets funneled to the people working on it for consideration
and this probably isn't the kind of "feedback" you meant, but we also keep an eye on hundreds of pieces of data moving daily/weekly/quarterly/yearly to spot trends in behavior and action on the platform across the millions of people using tumblr. we run A/B tests and experiments as a means of gathering quantitative feedback.
and there's a lot more that contributes as "feedback" that informs what we work on. market data, trends in the social media ecosystem, product development practices, hack days/weeks internally, how our public API is used... there's a lot of feedback in the system, way more than any one person can handle.

OC-tober day 2 - New OC
My newest character I'd call an OC is Ralph, the love interest and coterie-mate to my wife's character Khloe in the VTM game I'm STing for, The Poisoned Peach. Ralph is a spiced up self insert and has been a blast to play.
A factoid about him is his full name is Randolph Gaylord King IV. He's a thin blood but has the clan curse of his Nosferatu sire. My goal when playing him is to be the coolest and dorkiest guy in the room. I wanted to write something focused on just the boy but also wouldn't be any spoilers for my wife, so here is his embrace! I hope you enjoy!
The warm summer night air blew hard, causing him to stumble as he drunkenly tried to navigate a city he’d never been to before. Ralph took a deep breath and tried to focus on his phone which had directions to his hotel on it, but his head was swimming and his vision blurred. “Fuckin’ Marta ass,” He half slurred and grumbled out loud. “Last train at midnight ass.” He switched to his Instagram to check how posts from earlier in the night were doing.
There were several posts of him posing with other Instagram celebrities, nearly all he could not remember the names of. The more popular people he’d posed with got his own posts better hits, as he thought they would. Annoyingly, the pic he took of someone taking his prosthetic foot wasn’t doing well. It was an embarrassing situation he’d hoped to monetize but obviously it wasn’t as interesting as the barely concealed female presenting nipples in his other pictures.
He soon looked up and realized he had no idea where he was. “Fuuuuuuck.” He let out in frustration as he quickly looked back to his phone, pulling up the directions again... just to see that he’d overshot his hotel by over a mile somehow. “Fuck two electric boogaloo. Fuck it, I’ll Uber-loo.” Grumbling in resignation, he tried to find the app.
He opened his eyes after what felt like a long blink. His head throbbed and it felt like there was a knife twisting in his stomach. He choked on the smell of shit and piss that saturated the air. He blinked to clear his vision but the room was dark. His blood ran cold as the years of military training started to kick in. He kept silent and slowly felt around to get an idea of where he might be. His prosthetic was gone, there was a slimy substance on most surfaces, he could hear rats squeak and scurry. He prayed he was wrong, but he put the clues together and figured he was in the sewer.
Pulling himself up against the wall, he gripped at his stomach as the twisting pain persisted. Like an insane hunger he’d never experienced before. “The fuck!?” He mumbled as he felt a sharp stab suddenly in his belly, the source directly from his own fingers. He rubbed at their tips, and felt that his nails had become extended and pointed. “What the fuck!?” His heart started to pound in his chest, and he struggled to hold back panic.
He didn’t have much more time to his own thoughts, as suddenly a light flashed on. It wasn’t a particularly bright bulb, but in the pitch black of the room, it may as well have been the sun. He blinked rapidly to combat the trauma to his eyes and clear his vision. He couldn’t see anyone, but his fear of being in the sewer was confirmed.
“Who’s there?” He choked out. There appeared to be no one, but someone had to have turned the light on.
“Oh poor Randolph. So scared when not surrounded by your bimbos and himbos.” A voice like grinding stones said from seemingly nowhere.
Ralph spun and looked around. He saw no one, even the rats were silent now.
“What did you do to me!?” Ralph yelled out, feeling a white hot anger rise within him.
“I made you one of us! One of the normies. I ripped you down from your pristine pedestal and humbled you. Now you’ll know the same pain me and my brethren have felt all our lives!”
Ralph turned to now see a creature standing where there was nothing before. Dark, beady eyes peered out from beneath a hood. Its skin was mottled gray, its teeth crooked and jagged. Its wicked smile was so wide it seemed like his lips would split. It held a mirror in its hand and raised it above its own head to meet Ralph’s gaze.
A cold numbness went through Ralph's body as he saw what he knew was him, but refused to believe it. His eyes were black and amber, his nose upturned and bat-like. His hair was just wisps of what was. His skin was splotchy. His nails were black and grown out like claws.
The creature beyond his own reflection was smiling and speaking. Making grand hand gestures. But all Ralph could hear was the beating of his own heart in his ears. All he could feel was the desire to drain the creature dry. The thought of opening its throat and drinking from it like a fountain. Ralph’s eyes darted down to the floor as the creature spoke to him. He keyed in on a broken brick in the path between him and it. When the creature turned and its eyes were not on him, he made his move.
“You’re stricken, so stupid, you can’t even speak-”
The final words he heard as his body lurched forward. He leapt and pushed off the ground with his hands like a feral beast. The creature’s eyes and his own met before the first blow was struck. All of that confidence was gone. Fear was on its face, soon followed by brick. The first strike was hard and threw the creature off balance, the mirror it held falling and breaking on the concrete. It sputtered out something but Ralph was quick to keep pressing the advantage, slamming the brick into its face again, bringing it to the ground. It was like hitting a sand bag. The contact was solid but it was obviously not doing the amount of damage he expected. Still, he was unrelenting. He was on top of the creature before it could get up. It tried to throw him off, and was almost successful, the scrawny frame of the creature hid its strength well. Whether through pure rage or muscle, Ralph stayed on top and beat the creature until the brick crumbled to dust.
“Get him off me!” The creature cried out in panic.
Ralph didn’t take the time to register the cry for help. He started to go in with fists where the brick failed. But his arm was stopped, an iron grip on his wrist catching him mid-swing. He tried to spin and punch the sudden second attacker, but they grabbed his other hand as well. This one was bigger and more monstrous than the other. A cleft lip revealed teeth befitting a cryptid rotting within its mouth. Its eyes were a bright red that almost shined. There was no nose on its face, not even nostrils. Its ears were elongated and several inches of lobe hung down from them.
The fight left Ralph as he realized he wasn’t walking away from this. He went limp in the new creature’s grasp. Somehow, it was able to speak clearly through the cleft lips and monstrous teeth.
“The kid is a shit and what he did wasn’t right. But I can’t let you kill him. That’s for someone else to decide.” His voice was soothing and warm. “Name’s Jorge.”

so you're gonna paywall your content now? That's sad. I really enjoyed reading your stuff :/ but I guess that's how it goes when people get big
I got a few of these and I just wanna make it clear that I'm not going to stop posting content on this app. I will still write drabbles, and fics, all the same. However, patreon will have both early access AND yes, exclusive content. This has nothing to do with 'becoming big'. I'm simply taking an opportunity to monetize my work. Nothing more, nothing less.
I hate that this whole topic of tipping/paying writers/content creators has been so villanized. It's not like I'm asking for 50 dabloons a month to see a 500 word drabble every now and then while I also abandon this blog. Geez.

This article explores various app monetization strategies, helping you choose the best approach for your app and target audience.
Understanding Your App and Audience
Before diving into monetization models, it's vital to understand your app and its target audience. Here are some key factors to consider:
App Category and Functionality: Is your app a game, a productivity tool, a social media platform, or something else entirely? Its category and functionalities will influence user behavior and suitable monetization options.
Target Audience: Who are you building your app for? Understanding their demographics, spending habits, and preferred app interaction styles is crucial for choosing an effective monetization strategy.
User Acquisition Costs: How much will it cost to acquire new users for your app? Factor in these costs when determining your monetization strategy to ensure long-term profitability.
Popular App Monetization Strategies
Once you have a firm grasp of your app and audience, let's explore some of the most popular app monetization strategies:
Freemium Model: This widely used model offers a basic version of your app for free, with premium features or functionalities available through in-app purchases (IAPs) or subscriptions. This allows users to try your app before committing, while generating revenue from those who find value in the premium features.
Paid App Model: This model requires users to pay a one-time fee to download and use your app. This strategy can be suitable for high-quality, niche apps offering a complete experience without needing additional purchases. However, it can limit your user base compared to the freemium model.
Subscription Model: This model provides users with full access to your app's features for a recurring fee (monthly, annually). This can be a great option for apps that offer ongoing value, like productivity tools, fitness trackers, or content streaming services.
In-App Advertising: This strategy involves displaying targeted ads within your app. You can earn revenue based on impressions (number of times the ad is displayed), clicks, or even completed actions within the ad (e.g., downloading another app).
In-App Purchases: This model allows users to purchase virtual goods or services within your app, such as additional lives in a game, premium filters for a photo editing app, or expanded features in a productivity tool.
Choosing the Right Monetization Strategy for Your Scottsdale App
The best app monetization strategy depends on several factors specific to your app. Here are some key considerations:
Target Audience: Millennials and Gen Z may be more receptive to in-app purchases and subscriptions, while older demographics might prefer a paid app model.
App Complexity and Value Proposition: Complex, feature-rich apps with ongoing value may benefit from subscriptions, while simpler apps might be better suited for a freemium model with IAPs.
Market Competition: Analyze how similar apps in your category are monetized. Consider offering a competitive yet profitable model.
Additional Considerations for Scottsdale App Developers
Here are some additional tips for app developers in Scottsdale AZ, to keep in mind when choosing a monetization strategy:
User Experience is Key: Don't prioritize monetization over user experience. Intrusive ads or excessive in-app purchases can frustrate users and lead to churn.
A/B Testing: Test different monetization strategies and pricing models to see what resonates best with your audience.
Data Analytics: Leverage app analytics data to understand user behavior and optimize your monetization strategy for maximum profitability.

People actually put their fanfic behind paywalls? 🤯
How? And WHY?
Yeah, more or less.
Apparently, it's most common on Twitter fics where essentially a writer won't update until they reach a certain dollar amount in tips. And here I thought it was annoying and gauche when people held updates hostage until they got a certain number of comments 🥴
Links to kofi, cash app, patreon are an explicit violation of AO3's TOS and a great way to get one's fics removed (and rightfully so). I suspect people either do this on third-party websites or direct to third-party websites (e.g. linking to socials on AO3 which then link to payment apps) to get around AO3's TOS.
Either way, it's shitty.
Not every hobby needs to be monetized and fanfic is a hobby that cannot be monetized. As is, fanfic writers have a narrow space we exist in to legally write fanfic without getting sued into oblivion.
Anyone monetizing their work on AO3 jeopardizes the website and the works archived there. If AO3 is seen to be hosting works that infringe on IP and violate copyright laws, the whole thing is at risk of being a target of lawsuits, which could bankrupt AO3. At the end of the day, it's small potatoes compared to a publishing company, film studio, or other copyright holders who have big money to throw behind these types of lawsuits.
This is why I'm so hawkish about people trying to monetize fanfic. I fully admit I side-eye fic writers who have Kofis linked to tumblr and report people who link their Kofis on AO3, but charging readers to read your fanfic is a whole other level of sheisty.
I know plenty of readers would gladly pay their fave fanfic writers, but no honey 💅 pay fanfic writers in kudos and comments and keep your money. 'Cause that's not what this is about. It's always been about seeing our favorite characters fall in love and bang it out and no one needs to be charging anyone their hard earned money for that.
#on fandom#on fanfiction#If I were a ghost#I would haunt people who charge money for their fanfics#I would turn on their faucets while they were at work so their water bill is higher by the exact amount they charge people for their fanfic#Seriously#It's shitty and exploitative

Hi there!!! I think your art is super cool, and I love how you've drawn inspiration from fairytales, and how flexible you are with style ♡ I've been making art for a while but always just for myself, and I signed up for my very first craft fair! I was wondering how you got started selling your art. What were you nervous about? What do you wish you'd known? What did you diy that would have been worth buying, or vice versa?
Congrats on your first show!!! I wish you perfect weather, good booth assistance, and tons of wonderful people attending who buy tons of your work.
I started with an Etsy shop back in the day when Etsy was still decent, then did a few comic cons and shows and eventually timidly opened up commissions. I took it super slow! I was very shy and insecure lol
Tips:
Have a printed QR code for your insta and stuff, most people don’t take business cards anymore and just want to scan a code or take a photo. So have a sort of flyer with all your info that people can snap.
Recycled grocery bags make great bags and save you a buck, tell people you’re recycling lol
If you do any outdoor shows, have everything in plastic. Plastic tubs, plastic sleeves for art, be ready for wind and rain!!! You can get plastic sleeves for prints on Amazon for cheap.
Get a spare battery thingy so you can charge your phone if you’ve got no power connection, for indoor or outdoor shows, and just for life.
People like Venmo, cash app, most have cards, few have cash. You’ll only need like $100 in change.
When people compliment you, just say thanks! I appreciate it! Ask them where they’re from if you feel awkward. Don’t tell them your art is bad and they’re wrong lmao. Smile a lot and STAY STANDING and engage with people, it’ll help sales a ton. It sucks but if you sit nobody feels comfortable interacting with you. Then no sales. Maybe get a rubber mat to stand on. Wear comfy shoes.
Outdoor shows: Dog leash screws hold your tent down 100%. Overnight, taken EVERYTHING down, even if there’s day 2. Your tent will blow over/collapse if you leave anything behind, it’s just the law. Most tents that aren’t a fortune can’t withstand the weather and will collapse!!! So just take it all down.
Don’t sell yourself short! Calculate how long a thing took you and how much the materials were and pay yourself AT LEAST $10 an hour, if not $20. Have faith that you’re worth it.
Track all your sales and set aside 20% for taxes! Chances are you won’t have to pay them for a year or two because you won’t make much, but it’s good to start the habit. Track every cent for materials, food and gas for shows, supplies, product costs etc. those are writeoffs! If you spent more on your art business than you earned, no need to pay taxes.
www. iprintfromhome. com offers great print options and pricing!
Always always always make stuff that’s just for you. Art that the internet and the audiences never see. Not everything you make has to be show worthy.
It’s a big challenge to do this and I definitely am still learning the ropes! I wish I had all the secrets, if you find them let me know. Remember to have fun and make what you love and what inspires you. Also remember it’s a tough world out there for artists right now, so go easy on yourself if you feel like you’re not “getting it”. It’ll take time and work.
You don’t have to monetize your hobbies, but if you enjoy it and you want to, then go kick ass!!!
And again, I wish you good luck and good fortune!!! 🌟

Tutorial - Extracting the assets from Shining Nikki for conversion for Sims games (or anything, really)
Finally! In advance I'm sorry for any errors since english isn't my first language (and even writing in my actual language is difficult for me so)
And first, a shoutout to The VG Resource forums, where I found initially info about this topic 😊 I'm just compilating all the knowledge I found there + the stuff I figured out in a single text, because boy I really wanted to find a guide like that when I first thought about converting SN stuff lol (and because there's a lot of creators more seasoned than me that could do a really good job with these assets 👀)
What this tutorial will teach you:
How to find and extract meshes and textures (when there's any) for later use, and some tips about how stuff are mapped etc on Shining Nikki.
What this tutorial will not teach you:
How to fully convert these assets for something usable for any sims game (because honestly neither I know how to do that stuff properly lol). It is assumed that you already know how to do that. If you don't know but has interest in learning about CC making (specially for TS3), I'd suggest you take a look at the TS3 Tutorial Hub, the MTS tutorials and This Post by Plumdrops if you're interested in hair conversion. Also take a look on my TS3 tutorials tag, that's where I reblog tutorials that I think might be useful :)
What you'll need:
An Android emulator (I recomend Nox)
A HEX editor (I recomend HxD)
Python and This Script for mass editing
AssetStudio
A 3D Modeling Software for later use. I use Blender 2.93 for major editing, and (begrudingly) Milkshape for hair (mostly because of the extra data tool).
Download everything you don't have and install it before starting this tutorial.
Now, before we continue, a little advice:
I wrote this tutorial assuming that people who would benefit from it will not put the finished work derivative from these assets behind a paywall or in any sort of monetization. These assets belong to Paper Games. So please don't be an ass and put your Shining Nikki conversions/edits/whatever behind a paywall.
The tutorial starts after the cut (and it's a long one).
Step 1:
Launch Nox, then open Play Store and log in with a Google account (if you don't have one, create it). Now download Shining Nikki from there.
After downloading the game, launch it. It will download a part of the game files. After that, log in on the game, or create a new account in any server (the server is only important if you want to actually play the game. For extracting it doesn't really matter since the game already has the assets for the upcoming events and chapters. It also doesn't matter if you actually own an item in game, you can extract the meshes and textures even if you don't have it in game). If you're creating a new account, the game will lead you through the presentation of it etc (unfortunately there's no way to skip it).
After that, click on that little arrow button on the main screen. There, you can download the actual clothing assets. Wait for the download to finish (at the date I'm writing this tutorial, it is around 13GB). When finished, close the game (not the emulator).
Step 2:
Now we're going to copy the assets to our computer. Click on Tools, then on Amaze File Manager. Navigate to Android > data > com.papergames.nn4.en > files > DownloadedBundle > art > character. This is the folder where (I believe) most of the assets are stored.
Now, where the stuff is located respectively:
Meshes are on the meshes > splitmeshs folder
Textures are on the textures > cloth folder
Tip: Want to really data dump everything? Just select the folders you want and copy to your PC! 😉
Click on the three dots on the side of the wished folder, then in copy. Then click on the three lines on the left upper corner to open the menu, and then click on Download. Now just pull the header of the app to show the Paste option and click on it. It might take a while to copy completely (the cloth folder might take longer since it's bigger, so be patient).
If you're confused, just follow the guide below:
The copied folder will be located at C:\Users\{your username}\Nox_share\Download
Step 3:
Now that we got the files, we need to make them readable by AssetStudio.
For this, we need to open the desired .asset file on a hex editor, and then delete the first 8 bytes of the file, and then save.
You can see it is a pain to do that manually to a lot of files right? This is why I asked my boyfriend to create a script to mass edit them. (I only manually edit when I'm grabbing the textures I want, because afaik the script won't work with .tga and the .png files, more about that forward this tutorial)
How to use the script:
Make sure Python is already installed, grab the nikki-fix-headers.py file and place it on the folder where you copied the folder from the game (mine is still the Nox_Share Download folder).
It should look like this, the meshs folder and the script.
Let's open the Command Prompt. Hit Windows + R to open the Run dialog box, then type in cmd and hit Enter.
Now follow the instructions pictured below:
The folder with the edited files will be at the same location:
Now, we finally can open it all on AssetStudio and see whats inside 👀
Step 4:
Open AssetStudio. Now click on File > Load Folder and select the folder where your edited meshes are (mine is "splitmeshs-fixed"). Wait the program load everything. Click on Filter Type > Mesh, and the on the Asset List tab, click twice on the Name to sort everything by the right order, and now we can see the meshes!
To extract any asset, just select and right-click the desired groups, click in Export selected assets and select a folder where you wish to save it.
Stuff you need to know about the meshes:
Step 4-A: Everything is separated by groups.
Of course you'll have to export everything to have a complete piece. Only a few pieces has a single group. When exporting, you have to select every group with the same name (read below), and the result will be .obj files of each group that you have to put together in a 3D application.
Step 4-B: The names are weird.
They're a code that indicates the set, the piece, the group.
Items that doesn't belong to a set won't have the "S...something", instead they'll have another letter with numbers, but the part/piece type and group logic is the same.
As for the parts, here are the ones I figured out so far:
D = Dress
H = Hair
AEA = Earrings
ANE = Necklace
BS = Shoes
ABA = Handheld accessory
AHE and AHC = Headpieces/hats/hairpins
AFA = Face accessory (as glasses, eyepatches, masks)
(maybe I'll update here in the future with the ones I remember)
Step 4-C: The "missing pearls" issue.
Often you'll find a group that seems empty, and it has a weird name like this:
I figured out that it's referent to pearls that a piece might contain (as in a pearl necklace, or a little pearl in a earring, pearls decorating a dress, etc). The group seems empty, but when you import it to Blender, you can see that it actually has some vertices, and they're located where the aforementioned pearls would be. I think that Unity (SN engine) uses this to generate/place the pearls from a master mesh, but I honestly have no idea of how the game does that. So you'll probably have to model a sphere to place where the pearls were located, I don't know 🤷♀️ (And if you know how to turn the vertices into spheres (???) please let me know!)
Step 5:
Now that you already extracted a mesh, we're gonna extract the textures (when any). Copy the textures > cloth folder to your PC like you did with the splitmeshs folder.
Open it, and in the search box, type the name of the desired item like this. If the item has textures, it will show in the results.
Grab all the files and open them in HxD (I usually just open HxD and drag the files I want to edit there), and edit them like I teached above. Then you can open them (or load the cloth folder) on AssetStudio, and export them like you did with the meshes.
Stuff you need to know about the textures, UV map, etc:
Step 5-A: The UV mapping is a hot mess (at least for us used to how things works in sims games).
See this half edited hoodie and the UV map for a idea:
So for any Sims game, you'll have to remap everything 🙃 Also, stencil-like textures all have their own separated file.
As for hair, they all use the same texture and mapping! BUT sometimes they are arranged like this...
Here's the example of a very messed one (it even has some WTF poly). Most of them aren't that messy, but be prepared to find stuff like this.
Shining Nikki just repeat the texture so it end up covering everything, for Sims you'll need to remap, and the easiest way is by selecting "blocks" of hair strands, ticking the magnet button to make your seletion snap to what is already placed (if you have familiarity with blender, you know what I'm saying). Oh, some clothes are also mapped with the same logic.
Regarding the hair texture, I couldn't locate where they are, but here is a pack with all of them ripped and ready to use. You can also grab the textures from any SN hair I already converted :)
The only items with a fine UV map are the accessories, at least for TS3 that the accessory has a UV map independent from the body.
"But I typed the ID for the set and piece and couldn't find anything!"
A good thing to do is to search with only the set ID and edit all the files with it, because some items (especially accessories) share the same texture file. But if even then you can't find anything, it means that there's no texture for this particular item/group because Shining Nikki use material shaders* to render different materials like metal, crystal, some fancy fabrics, etc. So you'll have to bake or paint a texture for it.
*I believe that those shaders are located on the other cloth folder in the game files. This one is way bigger than the other one and once I copied it to see what it was, AssetStudio took ages to load everything, almost used all my 16GB of RAM, and then there was only code that the illiterate me didn't know what it was 🤷♀️
So that was it! I hope I explained everything, although it is a little confusing.
If you have any questions, you can comment on this post or send me a PM!

Life circumstances can change, and your financial plan should be flexible enough to accommodate unexpected expenses or shifts in income. Stay informed about investment opportunities, retirement planning options, and other financial tools that can help you reach your goals faster and more efficiently.
By creating a solid financial plan and sticking to it, you’ll be well on your way to achieving financial success and securing a stable future for yourself and your loved ones. Building wealth takes time, discipline, and careful planning, but the rewards of financial security and independence are well worth the effort. Let's break it down...
Tumblr Dashboard; 2007
Tumblr has always aimed for one thing: interconnectivity between people to form a community of those who share similar interests and beliefs. The original layout design of the app was simple and to the point, encouraging microblogging interactions and prolonged content viewing.
The interface of a Tumblr post has remained relatively similar throughout the years. Pictured above is the tumblr dashboard in april 2007, where a post could consist of a text, photo, quote, link, chat, or video. A dashboard to home all of your followings postings, as well as a feed to recommend newer, discovery-worthy content.
Tumblr Dashboard; 2011
Over time, the Tumblr dashboard remained strong in its design, only adding audio as a possible addition to any post. However, now you were boldy presented with how many people you are following as well as how many posts you've interacted with overall. Tumblr also adapted it's iconic indented layout, allowing comments and replies from users to be connected by bars,
such as this!
Tumblr Dashboard; 2024
The labels of the community are split into two: post-creating and post-viewing. This summarizes in the simplest way the function of Tumblr; to engage or to intrigue users into engaging.
When you first log into Tumblr, you are presented with the classic layout of a scrollable For You page (alongside a Following & Your tags), where you are encouraged to scroll and check out the latests post categorized by who and what tags you follow, as well as recommended content. This is all presented on the Home page, where you are prompted to make a posts at the very top, ushered to follow blogs that revolve around your similar interests, and prompts to further explore deeper into Tumblr where your interest typically would not lead you. Then, there is the explore page. This is where you can dive into an entirely new world of topics and conversations, ones not often found on your perfectly-curated For You page. While there is a section still recommending topics you are following, a majority of the Explore page is there to push you towards similar, yet branched out subjects that expand on what they already know about you. For example, I am into #yellowjackets, so why would I not also be interested in #cultmedia #sapphics #girlsgonewild & #splatterpunkbooks?
Activity, Messages, and Inbox all manage user interactions across the platform. Activity allows you to see how your friends or followers receive a post, sharing when if it was reblogged, liked, or created conversation. Messages and Inbox are relatively the same, but you can only send outgoing mail through Messages, and receives responses through your Inbox. It allows for a cleanliness, especially for larger blogs, while also posing a disconnect.
The Settings tab is similar in its layout to many social media platforms, giving you access and the availability to manipulate your account in whatever way you see fit. You can adjust the content you're seeing by blocking tags and bloggers, as well as filtering themes such as Drug Use, Violence, etc. In the same place, you are able to adjust your username or enact further Tumblr features that are in beta, called Tumblr Labs, "a collection of experiments we're working on that might turn out to be useful, fun, both, or neither." Tumblr allows you to manage any finances connected to your account, while simultaneously encouraging the user to give in to their small frees to allow for ad-free viewings of the app or having your very own, unique domain.
Tumblr Mart is one of the central monetization tactics used on the app. Badges, subscriptions, checkmarks, all at the tip of your fingers to further dazzle your blog, increase traffic, and showcase even more about you than was possible before. Purchase a zodiac badge to connect with your fellow Sagittarius', or showcase your playlist badge to let other bloggers know you have a wicked music taste. The Tumblr Mart encourages not only the beautifying of your own blog, but it encourages gifting other users matching badges or personal subscriptions as a means of showing affection. Love across the internet is just as powerful, right?

Spoutible a few months later
Okay a few months out and I can really safely say Spoutible really is the best Twitter alternative out there. I also would like to point out some obvious misinformation I have seen going round. And give a bit of an update on my own personal experiences as well as what has changed.
The site is perfectly safe. The claim that your data is being stolen and leaked is all bullshit. I have yet to see any signs that my information has been compromised and the information Spoutible asks you for is relatively basic stuff.
The claim that Spoutible is hostile to romance authors is also complete BS since there are a good number of romance writers over on Spoutible that have posted with no issue.
Spoutible is a scam is also fake. You cannot tell me that the whale is a scam when the person behind it has been highly up front and transparent about the various issues and working to address them. Spoutible being largely funded by donations right now makes sense considering it lacks a proper advertising model and has yet to attract the support of any major advertisers. They don't even force you to give money either. Donating is completely optional.
Yes I will acknowledge the site has some bugs still but that's to be expected for any new platform really and they have been working on fixing them as fast as they can.
I don't really understand why people are throwing a fuss over Spoutible's stance on porn considering its basically identical to virtually every other social site out there. In case you didn't know Spoutible's TOS was crafted based on the input of users during the beta period and they made it clear they didn't want porn
I have seen people complain about too much political content or how it feels like a left wing echo chamber but there being a lot of politics right now isn't surprising considering a lot of first wave Spoutible users were political journalists and commentators who migrated over from Twitter. If you are wondering why a lot of Spoutible feels very left centric a lot of it likely has to do with the fact that I think many aren't used to being on a platform where more balanced political discussion doesn't have to worry about being constantly drowned out by right wing trolling and disinformation.
And personally, I think it is important Spoutible be allowed to grow as a platform for news and political activism with how much of a right-wing disinformation cess pit Twitter is rapidly devolving into. Its probably no coincidence that I am seeing many journalists jumping ship to the whale right now. Also, here's a tip dont be afraid to check the explore section and remember to look for accounts that match your interests. I can't help but notice a trend/pattern of people coming over to Spoutible just to start shit on purpose knowing they will likely be banned just so they can then run back to Twitter and proclaim how Spoutible is unfairly censoring its users.
What elevates Spoutible above sites like Twitter is that they actually have shown they are taking moderation seriously. I remember earlier a bunch of people showed up Spoutible just to spew racist crap and they all got bounced right away. You would never seen that sort of enforcement over on Twitter. Giving people more tools at their disposal to help cut down on harassment, trolling, and bullying goes a long way in making Spoutible a healthier and more inclusive platform especially for the more marginalized groups such as LGBTQ people.
And now as for what has improved, what I like, and what could be fixed.
Video uploading is now available although still a bit buggy at the moment.
For artists and content creators Spoutible now allows you to monetize your content for free. No fee required. Just click on the red gear on your profile and look for the monetization options. Tips, donations, and subscriptions are all possible.
Still no app but I believe it will be launching soon.
More gamer people are needed which hopefully won't be much of problem if they can get the major gaming companies on board
Image upload limit way more generous than Twitter
I am really enjoying the far stronger engagement on my posts.
Need more companies on board but they are getting there. I think the first major company joined Spoutible today. It was Leap Frog.
Spoutible needs more celebrities and high profile figures. Getting someone like the POTUS would do wonders for raising its image.
Right now I think its highly premature to claim Spoutible will flop just like all the other Twitter altenatives considerings its still relatively young as a platform and still has much potential for growth. I feel I cannot stress enough that Spoutible really is the best Twitter alternative out there. It doesnt have the stability and security problems of HIVE nor does it suffer from Mastodon's server based bullshit and gatekeeping problems. The whole platform was perfectly designed to make migrating from Twitter as painless as possible so once again I will encourage people to give the whale a chance if they are tired of the bird.

Podcast Intro Script Template & Tips to Open With a Bang- The Podcast Host
Part 1 l Part 2 l Part 3 l Part 4 l Part 5 l Part 6 l Part 7 l Part 8 l Part 9 l Part 10 l Part 11 l Part 12 l Part 13 l Part 14 l Part 15 l Part 16 l Part 17 l Part 18 l Part 19 l Part 20 l Part 21 l Part 22 l Part 23 l Part 24
The twenty-fifth article Sydney gave me is all about writing intros and outros.
The article makes a great first point- every episode will be some listener's first. Not everyone goes back to the very first episode, some listen to just the trailer or the most recent one because that's generally the first one that's highlighted by their listening app of choice.
Those new listeners will have absolutely no loyalty to you in a great majority of cases, and so you must make it clear to them a few things: what your show is about, the tone of your show, and why they should listen.
There aren't any rigid rules for intros, but there are helpful tips. Things like your name, the name of the show, who the podcast is for, and the overall theme. By 'theme,' the article means what the podcast is about, the problem(s) you're solving, and how the podcast is conducted (solo or interviews with guests for example).
The problem your podcast is solving can be hard to pin down, but you aren't beholden to one singular problem, just a broad one. The article gives its own podcast, Podcraft, as an example. It's a podcast that helps people start their own podcast. Every episode deals with a different question about that topic, from microphones and equipment to how to monetize.
The article also provides a template for an intro: “Hello and welcome to the [blank] podcast; this is the show for [blank], all about [blank], and on this episode, have you ever struggled with [blank]? well, that’s exactly what we’re going to help you with on this week’s show, where you’ll learn how to [blank].”
Now, that may seem to be more geared towards an educational podcast, but you can tweak it to serve your podcast better.
The article also mentions something called a 'cold open,' which means that you drop the listener into the most interesting part of the conversation before you intro the show. Here's a more in-depth article about that technique.
Intros aren't the only thing covered in this article- outros are, too. Think of them together as bookends- they bracket your show and help make it seem more complete. Outros ease the listener out of the episode and intrigues them for the next one.
Thank your listener here! They spent some of their precious time with you, and you should show your appreciation. There's also a theory that suggests that the high point of the content isn't the only thing listeners remember- they also remember the end of it. As a side note from me, that reminded me of TV shows- how many have had really unsatisfying season or even season endings, something that ruins any rewatch? You do not want that for your podcast.
You can also add a call to action here- if your listener stuck around, that means they enjoyed the content. Asking for a follow for the podcast or on social media isn't a big ask for them, and they might do it.
Both intros and outros should be thirty seconds or less each, according to this article. That makes sense to me- if you drag it out, you'll just encourage listeners to skip forward.
